quick piece of info: being Canadian and watching Tucker Carlson, Ann Coulter and others trash Canada mindlessly (and seriously), watching George Bush Jr and Sr openly say that not only is atheism not part of 'religious freedom' but that they dont deserve citizenship, and just plain seeing how terrible it is that in the US its so taboo to question and poke fun at your own leaders (vs here where its a national pastime), Republicans... depress me.
whats funny though is that from my perspective, the Democrats, while they seem much more 'left' in comparison these days, are barely a centrist party by true political spectrum standards. they still suck up to the religious, they still often get their panties in a bunch over rock lyrics and video games... the US doesnt have an ACTUAL leftist party, and since most elected Dems ARENT liberals, both parties have allowed that word to become a dirty word, and stereotyped into this commie hippie group that will take away all your guns, raise your taxes and force feed you granola.
watching John Kerry and John Edwards fumble around abortion and gay rights issues... its embarrassing. take a goddamn stand on something... the only reason I would say vote Dem to anyone is because the current Republicans are flat out incompetent and incurious. if there are any Republicans on YTMND, I recommend they read Dwight Eisenhowers closing speech about the military industrial complex and think about how things have changed since his more noble era of actual conservative thought.

Fox News is about as far to the right as NPR is to the left. Also there are documented instances that show Fox News' bias. This makes Fox News an advocate news network for the Republican Party. I will say that CNN may lean to the left but I’ve also seen them lean to the right as well with conservative pundit/anchors like Wolf Blitzer.
"lol, liberals who hate fox news. I guess free speech is okay when you guys agree with it." A common claim made by conservatives. We aren't saying you should be striped of your right to free speech but we have the right to criticize bias in "the most powerful in cable news" epically if they have a slogan like "fair and balanced"
I thought Bush was the more likeable candidate back in 2000, which was good enough for me at the time(i was 14). I consider myself a political moderate so I always look at both sides. Mind you, I'm Canadian so I can't vote anyways.
Last year I would have vote for Kerry, though not because I was at all impressed by him or the dems...just out of frustration for the current administration.
Yo nroth2, I appreciate that you've got an opinion and all, but nobody should go apesh*t over the fact that there's one news channel that doesn't always agree with the others. Don't like it? Don't watch it. Fact is, I don't like the Republicans either, but only because they're too liberal. Please don't base judgments of others' political beliefs on their beliefs about the media.
"Also, give me a quote from a reputable
source of Bush or his father saying that about atheists." here you go ScndPistonHonda - "I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God." - George HW Bush, as V.P. in Chicago Illinois - Aug 27, 1987 - what can liberals do other than hating Bush when they dont control any branch of government? there's tonnes of liberal activist groups, but they too get written off because like I said, most elected Dems are actually centrists who dont pay them much lip service and just assume they'll get thier vote anyways, as they assume minorities, gays, and other groups... the Dems take a great deal of their base for granted...
ScndPistonHonda - do a simple google search. theres tonnes of citations. if you dont i assume you just dont want to accept that it actually happened. is it such a shock? anyways, the question for YOU is what do republicans do these days other than bitch about Dems? they run everything but somehow they're being oppressed? the war is a mess, they cant pass any of their actual bills, they care more about amendments about gay marriage then their actual platform, they've buried their immigration bills until after the election. they've castrated THEMSELVES politically. they are impotent. useless. they've spent hundreds of billions more than promised with more to come. its not the left that has to answer for its record right now.
lol at people that got their feelings hurt by the description. This isn't a football game. The current administration resembles nothing of the true republican party. They use these same fear mongering tactics over and over and the drooling masses fall for it everytime. The cold war, the war on drugs, and now the war on terror. They use fear as a means of slowly removing freedoms all in the name of security. You know what you get when you have security without freedom? Incarceration. You are no safer now then you were before the war on terror and you never will be.
MasterSitsu, I respect you more than you might think for your contributions and that's why I'm witholding a vote here. If you don't know what Libertarianism is, please educate yourself before you condemn. Only a government small enough to stay out of religion, ethics, the economy, and other countries' affairs ought dare call itself "conservative."
"Don't like it? Don't watch it. Fact is, I
don't like the Republicans either, but only because they're too liberal.
Please don't base judgments of others' political beliefs on their beliefs
about the media." I don't believe that being a republican or a conservative is wrong or anything. It's just a different way to look at the world but when you present your news network as fair and balanced people who don't watch politics might believe that fox doesn't have a slant. I don't really think I'm passing judgment because there are documented instances where has stated they want a conservative slant on a story
wargasm - i didnt say a thing about libertarianism, talk to the other guy. "but the democrats are far worse." - well, they didnt bury the country into an insurmountable debt and spread the military so thin it cant respond to an ACTUAL crisis, so I simply don't agree. If Hillary were elected I think she'd be "worse" than say, a McCain, but as an overall party I dont think 'worse' stands at all. In this, hopefully my last post on this comments thread - big shout out to tigrad, who in his post called Fox 'leftist' and left me a pm calling me a Nazi for my other comments. NOICE!
wargasm- I do respect your opinion. If I didn't respect your opinion, I wouldn't be responding because I wouldn't care what you thought. However, don't you think there is something wrong with a News Network, which some people use as their only news source, intentionally being biased? These cable news networks are amazingly powerful and can influence elections in one way or another.
I do agree with you about the bias, nroth2, and I thank you for being level-headed on the subject. While people are bound to get the wrong impression of events if they only watch Fox News, I think it's important to have a kind of "devil's advocate" to counterbalance the general sentiment. I think there's bias in every news source, since it's not always about how you present the facts; what facts you decide to present at all is important as well. In order to gleam the truth from the media, one ought to watch more than one channel. I tend to enjoy Fox simply because they've always got a right-wing nutjob debating a left-wing nutjob about every issue. It's entertaining since I seldom agree with either side.

Off topic: I saw the the Fox New Clinton interview. Clinton kept referring to the incident in Somalia by the name of the movie title "Black Hawk Down." If Bush did that you'd all be calling him retards.
P.S Bash republicans all you want they're still the lesser of two evils. Democrats are too stupid to get rid of republicans, even if they got away with murder.
Ah, of course. Some people can't remove their knee-jerking foot from their mouth. Whenever politics comes up some people are so goddamn irrationally and emotionally invested in something they're unable to distance themselves and laugh. The negative responses here from the Republicans say a lot about your party. Ideologues have a tendency to knee-jerk.
There's a lot to say about the pathetically divided nature of the US. First off, it's wrong to call all Republicans fascists, since American Republicans are WAY less far right than fascists are. Sure, there are those conservatives who want to take rights away from people who are "sinful," thus reverting the country to a sort of oppression not seen in Western society since, oh, the middle ages. And sure, these are the same people who would be most inclined to use nukes against our enemies.
And these are the people who would do something really drastic like invading Iraq based on very limited evidence, yet will refuse to make even the most minor lifestyle changes based on strong evidence towards issues such as global warming. And...well, I think you get it. But the Democrats aren't perfect at all, either. They often have a way of pandering to people on the right in order to get themselves more votes. And super liberals suggest withdrawing from Iraq immediately, even without a good plan.
(I mean, there have been all sorts of plans suggested over the past several years but...never mind.) And liberals (I guess when I say liberals, I mean "really too liberal" the way I mean "really too conservative" when I mention conservatives) may be much more rational and forward-thinking than conservatives, but they often try to do things that...oh who am I kidding? The Democrats suck, but not NEARLY as much as the Republican Party. There, I'm done ranting now.
