i'm giving you a four because i like the idea-- old film is way underrepresented on ytmnd-- but the image should really be much bigger. i won't hold you to syncing the sound and voice exactly because that's tough, and i get that the gif right now is pretty hi-res so you'd have to lose quality, but nobody really wants to look at a small image.

thanks for the compliment, and thanks for keeping me honest. i was just being lazy. it still doesn't look great, but it's relatively close to what i can reasonably ask of myself right now.

gag aside, the image and sound work together well too.

you're obviously aware that the start is choppy, but I like what you did at the end, and that you didn't over-ornamentalize the front end- you just tried to squeeze out enough to make it functional to set up the joke. good deal, and better than your other dtmb (which is still funny and well-done) because this one kind of has a real satirical point.

really funny! really well composed ytmnd, and i love the red on the tile set. My only qualm is the loop- I've seen this clip made into a seamless loop, you just end up losing some of the "whoosh" effects.

On on the site ?SITE DELETED
I don't like it- it has some humor but not enough to justify the long running time. it puts too much stock in the notion of fads, is the main thing. this seems to assume they're the end-all, be-all lifeblood of the site, which i'm not sure i agree with. There is not much irony or intelligence on display in this site, either. The fact that you built this entire thing around a single extensive soundclip but didn't directly address its worth intrigues but mainly perturbs me.

funny, well-made... but not funny enough, or well-made enough, to justify its length

i'm partial to the format, and also the site-created date, but the quote can't quite carry this ytmnd. there needs to be some kind of joke in the image, or the image needs to be higher-res. that's just my two cents.

i like the sentiment, and the booming voice, but this isn't exactly very good.

your other option is, keep the setup as long as it is, but after that first chorus and the animate gif, just have it descend into khan bedlam, with khan's just peppered everywhere for no rhyme or reason, in as ghetto-fab a way as possible.

positives: that picture is absurdly awesome, the idea is good. negatives: sound clip too long, not mixed super well- it could either be ghetto-fab or well-done and it comes off amateurish, and no element of surprise. change title, chop sound clip, throw in the entire KHAN clip and don't try to make it mesh or anything, just have it end with that weird music and resume the chorus where you left off, and animate the gif slightly, so it's 2 frames: 1 the original, 2 the khan'ed. there you have it.

you PROVE it wrong? like, empirically? ALWAYS? with YTMNDers like you, who needs experts?

ualue music is a bad choice. title and text are lame. make a parkinsons joke, but make it funny, or at least coherent. example: title: "MJF can't stop..." text: "shaking" pic: same, maybe tiled. sound: some song with "shake" in it, ie, shake your booty, and just use the chorus, or that beatles' song. even then it wouldn't be great, but it'd at least be coherent. like a 2.4 or something.

is it really necessary to resubmit after a minor loop fix?

On on the site ?MULLET KID
i like wesley willis, i like cream of wheat t-shirts, but this combo isn't doing much for me. cut the watermark, drastically shorten the sound clip, and maybe you're working with something. as much as i like the cream of wheat shirt, i think a more focused image of a face with a mullet would be better. also, text "cut the mullet," and then you have a decent ytmnd with pic, sound, txt and singular focus. then again, mullet jokes got pretty old in like 1997. maybe with the right image you could pull it off.

waaaaaaaaaaay too long, and not creative. also, if you know it's NOT FUNNY, why post? Long and not funny... so basically the perfect ytmnd, right? listen, i respect (and agree with) this view, and it IS a great clip... but this does not belong on YTMND.
April 16th, 2007
I like the idea, but I feel a). you overplay your hand and clearly identify your vested interest, as opposed to simply making fun of the way people like JT operate, and b). it's just kind of a wall of text. You could keep the equation image, keep the main title, keep the sound (creates a nice effect right when the page opens) and just lose the rest of the text, and you'd actually have a fairly effective ytmnd. as it is, it's way too bloated for non- or casual gamers to appreciate.

what about a "trial by fire" content box for sites with less than 1,000 views but over a 3.00 average?
April 15th, 2007
BTape, I disagree with your idea because I don't think we want to encourage viewers to register by way of losing ad sidebars, and stuff. we don't gain anything, then. I think we just gotta restrict total viewership to members.
April 15th, 2007
really, really interesting idea. votes ideally help organize the sites, though, and point people towards quality. that's not the way it works now, although I think it used to, especially when there were less sites to deal with. the notion of overhauling the voting system is really, really cool.
April 15th, 2007
i disagree because- nonmembers will only join ytmnd because they want to be creative. people who join ytmnd right now usually do so because they want to vote. eventually they try making sites. people who join ytmnd with the intention of site creation will make better sites, and be more qualified voters. the community does not evolve now because primarily morons are joining the site. it's devolving. that's the point. it will evolve when creative people tell their creative friends, and its a creative culture

if non-users can't see the sites... then I think the main people who would sign up for something like ytmnd would be creative types, people who see the opportunity to express themselves. they have no idea of fads or anything, they only know about the format, and it's the format, not the fads or currents sites, that draws them to it. That's partially why ytmnd was so interesting in its earliest days- because people had their own ideas and looked for ways to push them to the limit within the format.

invite only won't prevent morons from getting on to the site. gmail was (is?) invite only, same with high school facebook. Invite-only ensures a user base with a high social status, not creativity. the idea of only registered users being able to see sites is really clever, and would be effective. It means ytmnd has a much lower profile. I think it would attract a more creative demographic, and not a demographic that just wants to be entertained and occasionally masturbates in ytmnd format.

funny joke.... lame song. you don't need to shoehorn this into a fad, just let the site stand strong on its own. grab some different soundclip and roll with it. maybe find a higher-res image for the one in the top left, and think about adding more shots to the collage.
