Nice. Sort of a breath of fresh air while drowning in square waves, video game screenshots, and Myspace pictures with crappy music.

just because it's historical and makes you feel like the USA is important, it doesn't mean that it's 5 star material

the explosions were out of place... but they sounded really cool in surround sound. Please leave them in.
June 6th, 2007
(0)
put some variation in the sound- bringing the viewer into the experience of war and not just another memorial slideshow is what really gets the point across

Memorance is not a real word...
June 6th, 2007
(0)
It is not technically in the English Language, but it is used often, and could be inducted into the Dictionary, like the word "googled," or "truthiness."
June 6th, 2007
(4)
no, it can't. that's what the word 'remembrance' is for.
June 6th, 2007

The word "Memorance" is not in any current dictionary, including Wikipedia... If it was used so often, it would at least be there. Again, not a real word.
June 6th, 2007

Unlike Iraq, this was an important war, and it was necessary that the Allied won it, or else we would have been taken over by Hitler's regime. We should remember it, but not let it happen again. BTW, my grandfather was in the tenth army, in the pacific, as a Technician 4th grade.
June 6th, 2007
(-2)
Who is WE? You think the USA would have been invaded by Hitler to take over our land? LMAO. The war WAS necessary to insure freedom lived on on that side of the planet. Just as the War on Terrorism. And just like with WW2, everyone is opposed to getting involved. 9/11 unfortunately was not enough to be the Pearl Harbor. We must wait for something bigger before all the pacifists realize the threat we face.
June 6th, 2007
(1)
People opposed the Americans in the 'War on Terror' because you didn't take the fight to the terrorists. The Iraqis didn't do it, remember? An unjust war, the 21st Century Vietnam. Saddam was not enough of an excuse for the damage and death dealt to that nation. And Hitler would've come for America at some point, had they not been beaten and conquered Europe. You seem to overestimate the US, just like we Brits did until after WWII. Well, both our nations have made a mess this century in the Middle East...
June 6th, 2007
(0)
*just like we Brits overestimated ourselves
June 6th, 2007
(0)
Chav, relax. We're just protecting our oil interests. its np
June 6th, 2007
(0)
Hitler's ambitions didn't reach past the Fatherland. As with Iraq not "doing it" Saddam certainly was not any help when he defied all our ceasefire agreements and denied any entrance by inspectors. It doesn't matter what he was hiding, if anything, he refused inspection and he continually fired upon our jets. How can you wage a war against extremist islam when and ignore a defiant muslim dictator who has shown willingness to help any enemy of the US? Criticize post invasion fine, but Sadam had to be removed
June 6th, 2007
(1)
Learn your history. We got involved in WWII because the Japanese attacked us, and we helped in Europe so that after Hitler got sacked they would help us in Japan, and to protect trade. We didn't care about the Holocaust, most people ignored it. A lot of people were in it because it was the right thing to do, more people were in it because they got a draft card, and a few people were cheering from the sidelines in their suits. It was certainly more noble than the fiasco that is Iraq, but war is never holy.
June 6th, 2007
(0)
Lol, hey look it's Texaggie. Go watch FOX News. Failing to note that the majority of death camps were in Poland is pretty bad, the rest is ridiculous. (there's no f*cking 'E' you 'tards)
June 6th, 2007
(3)
WWII was a good monday morning quarterback war because there happened to be a holocaust and technology had advanced to the point where it was not a repeat of WWI (which would have been a disaster both in reality and from not learning from the mistakes of the past). Also, wars have happened for thousands of years. "Getting along" is a relatively new and secular idea (just ask the Zionists... they want to reenact doomsday fantasies from a 2000 year old book with 2000 AD technology).

happy birthday to you happy birthday to you happy birthday korf's mom happy birthday to you and many more on channel 4 and scooby-doo on channel 2 and frankenstein on channel 9 all the rest on CBS
June 8th, 2007
(-1)
Korf, I would not call myself a patriotic person, in fact, I'm quite liberal when it comes to politics. I hate war. Who really does like war? Honestly. But when someone takes over the Eastern world, which Hitler could have done, this puts the entire western hemisphere in jeopardy as well. If Japan took over China, they could have attacked us. And There would be more people against us. The Iraq war is a pointless war, and to compare it to any other war is, as Carib put it, "spitting on WWII veterans' graves.

June 6th, 2007

Yep, and I haven't seen any major news outlet devote any significant coverage to it. That's sad when WWII veterans are dying at a rate of over 1000 per day. :(
June 6th, 2007
(0)
I saw FoxNews do a special on a guy that recreated the Allied Graveyard so Vets didn't have to leave America in order to visit it. Nothin from CNN so far, too many things about kidnapped girls.
June 7th, 2007
(0)
i went to the allied graveyard in normandy, the place is unreal, it's right next to the beachwhere the sh*t went down. there are some nazi bunkers they preserved as is too, along with huge, 20 foot deep grassed-over craters with car-sized chunks of concrete stickin outta the ground where some bunkers got blown out/up. Go there, the town is mad cheap, and THOSE french folks are really nice, only the parisians are buttholes. At night we got tons of wine and fireworks. there r museums and guided tours too.

OMG Secret Nazi Enemy! Anyway, yeah... Those were the days in which America fought a real war. Also don't forget Soviet Russia, they did at least equally a much as America did - in fact, if it wasn't for them, the entire Nazi-regime would be defending the coast, which would've made victory a lot harder to achieve. It's the other way around as well - if it wasn't for the Allied forces, Soviet Russia would've been in trouble as well. The Nazis were stupid enough to provoke everyone at once.
June 6th, 2007
(-1)
Good point EwoudCP, although I think it's safe to assume that the Soviets did it for their own self interests. Also, Stalin at that time was just as guilty if not worse than Hitler when it came to committing acts of genocide, atrocities and war crimes. But I do agree with you that fundamentally the allies probably would not have won that war had the Soviets not gotten involved. The bottom line is that this was as you say a "real" war for just causes and seriously changed the course of history.

I think D-day is in enough video games that it will surely never be forgotten, lahl.

1'd. Why? Because my grandad went ashore on Gold Beach on June 6th, one of the three beaches taken by British or Canadian forces, and yet your sideshow was populated almost entirely by Americans. The way to honour the memory of those who fought isn't to forget the British and portray D-Day as an American venture.

It looks like YOU forgot that DDay is but a trifle because June 6th is my mom's birthday. Also, dramatic music + unnecessary sound effects + propaganda = what? We're fighting for freedom loving people (unless you happen to be Japanese in which case we don't love your freedom quite so much). There are no "good guys" in war, just people who kill less people unnecessarily and the other guys.

thanks, i forgot

Easily a 5, except that the explosions drown out the speech, which is the whole point of this thing. If you really wan't to keep em in, move em over to the musical montage portion.

On a more irreverent note..... doesn't General Ike's voice sound just like the guy who speaks the words of Baz Lurhman's Sunscreen(Everyone's Free to Wear...)??? I can't do re-mixes, so that idea is up for grabs whoever cares to experiment...

Dude, honestly, even after having about 8 beers in me, I can honestly say I don't give a rats *ss if I got a 1 on this site. I live in DC, I've been to the WWII memorial at least 5 times. I stop to talk to any WWII veteran I possibly can. I've read almost every single one of Steven Ambrose books. I totally respect WWII and the cause behind it. I don't support the Iraq war. WWII means a lot to me, my grandfather was in it. I think it was the last true war that will ever be faught.
