Wow, the judging REALLY f*cking surprised me. I was a judge on this remix, and can't f*cking believe Boomaga won. His submission simply pales in comparison to many of the entries. But I guess that's the nature of the beast -- the hype of the author surpasses the skill and quality of the submission. This is truely the heart and nature of YTMND in general. We're becoming less of an unbiased community of artists and more like an in-bred cult. My apologies to Eekdacat and Feedrosie in paticular.
I'd love to here some sort of emperical defense of Boomaga's remix. I found it incredibly repetitive, possessing a sh*t-like sound overall, and not amusing in the slightest, and about as creative as a steph turning into NEDM, =/. Allow me to also tip my hat to Dasyati for the most origional submission by far. Didn't sound as good as Eekdakat or Feedrosie, but it was one of the few submission that was GOOD new content.
Are you f*cking kidding me? I was a judge on the contest and I think boomaga's song was amazing. Not only was all of it (minus the voice) an ORIGINAL COMPOSITION, but the remixing he DID do to the voice was superb. He made his own song- a GOOD song- a song that I love listening to along with the rest of my collection.
A good song? What constitutes "GOOD?" Rubbing your dick against a synth board while a camwhore says the same line 80 times over two minutes? This is a f*cking REMIX, son, R-E-M-I-X. Origionality in COMPOSITION should be a MINOR qualification and criterion for judgement. Just because you spent 9 hours hammering out your own synth line, and then looped the same line over it 50 times, does not make it inherintly better than a remix that combines two REALLY good melodies almost flawlessly.
And again, as I've argued on YTMND's, the reputation of the author often inflates the quality of the site (or remix in this case). Boomaga has done some really great stuff for this site. While his submission was top-ten matieral, it simply does not provide the same mastery of REMIXING, CREATIVITY, or SOUND QUALITY that some of the other submissions do. THE TYRANNY OF DEMOCRATIC VOTING, =( -- RATIONALISM AND IMPERIALISM HAS FAILED US. CLEARLY, WE'RE POSTMODERN NOW DOGS.
I'm going for quality, how I think it sounded like, and the amount of time and/or effort I think someone put into it. Getting the tempo for 2 songs to synch, or dropping in a couple lines of speech during ANOTHER song doesn't constitute a complete remix for me. I also enjoyed the Oakenfold remix a lot. I enjoyed listening to Boomaga's song. So did other people, apparently. Your opinion, likened with other judges', reflected accordgingly on the outcome. The bottom line is that boo won. End of story.
God, those f*cking slackers, half of them don't make good sites. IT IS A SITE USERS DUTY TO JUDGE SITES IF THOU SHALL NOT MAKE THEM.
(by the way, "WE'RE POSTMODERN NOW, DOGS!" would make a REALLY good ytmnd). I agree with your critera for judgement, but I did not use the "effort" criterion to judge the REALLY good submissions for the simple fact that most top-10 material all contained HOURS of work and effort. Attempting to evaluate effort any further was an act of pure sophistry.
never let foamingpanda judge anything, he's a whiny little bitch. anyways, boomaga made an original composition using beats from other sources and mixed in the Shoe parts, and had to also pitch correct everything to make it sound like she could sing. to think remixing only means mashing up two songs is ridiculously ignorant of most electronic music. to me only Eekdacat's remix had a chance of beating him.
foamingpanda wants to pin everything on that boomaga is a known user... well so is dasyati but that didnt move him up any further, in fact on my judging i'm not sure i even put it in my top 10. i had a remix submitted, i like it, but had i not been a judge i dont think it would have made top 10 earlier.
Here goes Sitsu -- obviously the harsh knife of critcism I ran under the thin underbelly of his recent string of terrible YTMND's opened a wound of a bitter vindictive nature. Some people cannot handle unbiased critical truth that disregards their online superiority complexes; I guess the puss still needs to drain and bleed out. Anyhow, stringing together a bunch of sh*tty synth lines and then putting a camslut line on top of them does not correct the fact the submission sounds like sh*t.
I'm not sure if your head is so far up the *ss of Boomaga that your ability to gauge the quality of sound has been dramatically reduced, but, quite frankly, it sounds almost as annoying as some of the Poland submissions. I won't go into the cult like mentality of this sites "key" users, but do know that it is a very observable and almost funny, in a sad way, phenomenoa that drastically inflates the ratings of both sites and remixes alike. Oh, if we could only make all YTMND's anon.
And as far as being compared to michaelwolfson -- try again. Unlike that moron, I do nothing more than provide truthful and adequate crictism while disregarding bias and reputation. I couldn't give a rat sh*t about this sites "community," or anything that goes beyond the creation of sites (the forums are a f*cking joke). YTMND exists to create unique internet funny. It should have no higher or greater function.
Wow... foamingpanda really knows how to gay things up. Anyway, I mostly agree with the top 10, but there were some that were outright DENIED! My #1 choice made #2, which was pretty good, but I can't believe ytmedleynd, rkelleysouthpark, and press2 were not on there somewhere... Oh well, time to volunteer myself for Remix3 contest...

foamingpanda, you dont know wolfson like we do and i have to say you do sound like him... you yourself have talked of superiority complexes, but yourself use words like 'truth' to describe your own rantings. it would be easier to accept your opinion if you werent so keen on so harshly forcing it on others.
I waited too long for what appered to a half-arsed contest. Sorry, but not only does the YTMND itself lack in several areas, I agree that Boomegas remix isn't really what I would call a remix. I fail to hear the original theme in there, actually. Which is a major minus. There were some other good ones, but none of the ones I expected to win even made it to the top10. Like, Metal NEDM, and those. Generally, I'm quite dissapointed, sorry.
Thanks, moheevi, and thanks to everyone - I really really did not expect to win. One thing I'd like to clarify - I did pitch and timing correction on SunnyRay's vocal, then built music around it. I'm sorry if I disappointed anyone expecting more derivative, less original work for a "remix." If you want to split hairs about what constitutes a "remix" vs. a "composition" or whatever, knock yourself out. Then pucker up and kiss my black ass, cause I WON, YA PUNK BITCHES ! YEAHHHHHH ! HOW'S THAT FEEL ! OOOOOOOOH, BURRRRRRN ! I IS TEH WINNRE ! EAT IT RAW ! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! WATCH ME DANCE UNH UNH UNH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

"Where the F is SirLemming's good stuff, like Telemarketing Gangsta Rap and Cyberman Rap?" I'm the one who decided to submit White Porcelain. Which is overall a more extensive remix than either of those, considering it uses an original music track and stuff. However, I will be submitting Crazy Telemarketing Gangsta Rap to contest #3... shortly.
Alright...I wasn't in Honorable Mentions or Top 10, but it's OK since my entry probably requires a very specific taste (and my graphic kinda sucked). The only thing I'm a little bit concerned about is that making original content isn't valued higher than slapping pre-made song x together with ytmnd-fad y.
