Return Of The Mack

hi pals,

Well, it's been a long road to this point. Today is YTMND's sixth birthday. I'm too tired to be funny, so here it is.

What you see here is a culmination of almost two years of my work. That being said, it is currently almost completely broken. Before you go off and explore, please read the rest of this news if you're a registered user.

I've posted a changelog on the wiki available at http://wiki.ytmnd.com/YTMND_2.0_Changelog. I was too busy to actually keep track of all the changes, and since it's been literally years now, there's a lot of stuff I've done which I've just completely forgotten about. So please feel free to update it/format etc if you find new features I missed.

There are some pretty major bugs at the moment, the biggest being that you are unable to upload assets in the new site creator on any browser other than Firefox. I haven't done much Q/A on other browsers. Please keep track of bugs at http://wiki.ytmnd.com/YTMND_2.0_Bugs, I need a list to work off of and it would be helpful if you useless ingrates would actually help out for once.

anyway, enjoy it.

Is this a late April foosl joke? The update is awful. The layout makes no sense and the color scheme is horrendous. Parsing anything on this site is an exercise in futility (also YTMNDs won't open in a new window). If you don't change the layout to something usable, expect new visitors to the site to plummet to 0.

People have said this every time I've ever changed the design. It's too bad it doesn't make old visitors plummet to 0 as well, because then I wouldn't have to listen to them complain about the design.

You know, I've tried to provide constructive criticism on every change you've implemented. And your usual response is dismissal or something along the lines of, "Your criticism is exactly what's making YTMND worse!" You know what? Fuck you. I've spent hundreds if not thousands of hours making content for this website. I've been disappointed in the direction (or lack thereof) you've taken this place, and my comments have been blunt but honest. I've cared about YTMND for way longer than I should have. It's obvious that your target audience is the random visitor from Google who accidentally clicks on an ad, because this new layout is terrible. And no one will want to become a user or frequent this site unless it's out of some strange feeling of nostalgia.

max, you belittle anybody who enjoys your site as a creative outlet while letting trolls have free reign. On one hand, you put in all this effort to make a really nice thing while mocking anybody who ever enjoyed it. And you wonder why anybody would criticize you. I have foolishly contributed hundreds of dollars to support YTMND. I have offered my time to help moderate the site. In return, I have had my accounts deleted and have been insulted whenever I try to contact you. max, you reap what you sow.

I gotta agree, the color scheme is fugly. Some of the new features are nice and if they actually start to work it would be a good update. For god sake change the wallpaper and color scheme.

Some things that I don't like: 1) Text on top of a textured image. It's pretty "noisy" and distracting. Plus what is the background image pattern even supposed to be? It looks like some cliche art for fancy clothing or a crown royal drink. It looks like it has nothing to do with ytmnd. 2) White text on a black background. After reading it for a while it fucks with your eyes. 3) No recent comments listed for your sites. I know the "feed" will let you know when someone comments, but then you have to check the site profile page to read it instead of just looking at a box that shows the last 20 or so comments from all of your sites on a single page.

Also why is there so much pinkish red? Isn't ytmnd's color supposed to be orange?

2 things... 1: have the edit/delete site functions been enabled? If so, where can I find them? 2: when you close the news/contests thing on the fp, they are open the next time you come back. Can these stay closed once you close them?

1: [user JoeyJoeJoe:sites]

2: Not currently, but the functionality was written in. All over the site there's stuff that isn't enabled because it relied on client-side storage, which I had been relying on, but HTML5 storage isn't there yet, flash is hacky at best and google gears was discontinued, so I have to look into it more.

Frienemies list has been fixed. I can see I am Goneja's enemy even though, as far as I can remember, I haven't said anything negative to him in two years. I don't even remember the last time I voted on one of his sites. He really likes to hold grudges.

Christ, Max, change the layout back. This new one looks like something you'd see on some angsty emo fashion website. And it's annoying as shit to get around. And most YTMNDs won't load. And God only knows how many people have been alienated from this site now. But at least we can swear without being censored. Bitch fuck faggot shit ass. Maturity, lol.

Except for minor things like site bugs, Max (teensy little ones at that) I think you did a really great job. Although, I think it would be great when looking at a comment page for a site, there was an easy, direct way to know who made it.

For example, in the old layout, the site maker's name would be colored blue. I am not saying that you should do that again, because blue would probably not be good for the design. But perhaps some other way to highlight that name or make it stand out somehow is definitely a good choice.
