Do you think that anyone would *want* to join the military if they didn't have nationalistic propaganda hammered constantly into their brains? People are free to think, yes, but for all intents and purposes, thinking is limited to specific parameters. "Defend your country, earn your keep, don't question what we pass off as democracy."
I've got nothing against soldiers, per se (my dad's a vet, in fact); it's more that I found it ironic that relatively hawkish old Senators can call dogfighting barbaric while insisting on the necessity of war.
