For the record, Time's "Man of the Year" isn't given to the greatest man, but the man who influenced the events of that year the most. Osama Bin Laden was going to get the 2001 title, but people who didn't understand complained.

Ok, this is funny but stupid. This is from back when TIME magazine was gutsy and cool and was willing to give the "Man of the Year" award to someone who actually deserved it. Now they give it to Rudy Giuliani over Osama bin Laden just so they dont look ba

Man of the year just goes to whoever has CHANGED the world the most that year. It is not neccessarily a good thing. Osama Bin'Laden was up for one but TIMES realized that people wouldn't understand that they weren't supporting him and they'd flip out.

Although they have in the past, Time doesn't like to give "Person of the Year" to 'evil' people anymore.

where would we be if stalin didn't have a hardon for killing germans? imagine if the millions of krauts that stalin killed had lived, and were unopposed. there's no goddamn way we'd have won ww2. the russkis won ww2. and yes, he was a tyrant that killed f*ckloads of his own people, but america has a long history of tyrant loving, especially those in oil rich nations

Maybe if they would have spent less resources building bombs than baking bread they would have done better.

f*ck i mean, the man was brutal. but do americans give a f*ck about a guy who kills his own people? f*ck no. rwanda, cambodia, germany, turkey, sudan, we never even interrupted any of them.

You have to realize that the Time 'Man of the Year" used to be given to world changers and not necessarily because of change for the better.

@cooke: It's always been the most influential. Time is not about giving awards to people, Time is a magazine about current events. They wanted to make Osama Bin Man of the Year, but were shouted down by Bush's worshippers. They were the only true journalists in a medium full of pandering self-congratulatory f*ggots.

MOTY is about influence, not a value judgement. Hitler and Khomeni were also MOTY.
