Calcium is the most abundant metal in the human body, with nearly all of it occurring in hydroxylapatite, the mineral component of bones and teeth. Outside the body, calcium minerals have played an import role in civilization, as calcium carbonate rocks like limestone and marble have been used as building materials for works like the pyramids and the Parthenon.
