Everyone copies real world weapons. Pistols, Rocket launchers, Sniper rifles, and the lot are all quite popular, which is why they are still being put into games. But as far as futuristic/fantasy/sci-fi weapons, there is truly no limit to what can be created. We are no longer limited by 2d sprites, physics, or 16mb system memory. I bet everyone who surfs YTMND could come up with 10 weapons each and they wouldn't be similar. Cry all you want guys, but the truth remains. Developer laziness isn't our friend
