| i took a class when i was in college called something like anthropology and film, and one week we watched a documentary where kids of all different races/cultures were sent to this camp (not that kind of camp) where they were encouraged to confront their cultural barriers. there was nothing really funny about it. but there was a different film we watched were this white girl with a southern accent showed a bunch of different clips as a part of a video presentation her group threw together | ||||||
| the presentation was a general overview of the history of film. there were several black students who got offended that she showed a segment of the Louis Jordan beans and cornbread bullsh*t without explaining the racial implications of the act. whether you agree with the black student or not, the funny part was that the white girl didnt even understand the racial implications of the whole thing. she probably just read his name in a book about film and saw the famous closeup pic (this documentary was | ||||||
| pre internet production) so this chick and her whole group really just looked like tools and didnt really have sh*t to say besides "it was a part of the footage we chose..." | ||||||
| and its too bad about Huck. that book pulled me along like the Hobbit. as long as racial implications are explained and made understood to some degree, it doesnt matter who is being taught that material, whether its a conservative black Evangelist or the the delinquent son of an upper level KKK family. | ||||||
