Do you think that a subscribing option should be added to YTMND?

2009-06-27 16:09:25

I think it would be a good idea, though I think there are more important things that this site needs. Hey maybe max could link subscriptions to twitter or something.

2009-06-27 18:49:13

NO, THE MASSES MUST NOT TOUCH THIS BEAUTIFUL HAVEN OF FUNNINESS. God FORBID the Myspace junkie colture with their skinny jeans and gross obese emo chicks get their filthy hands on it....

-1 for promoting subscription option. And as for image optimization, you have 40 frames. It looks like you could cut the size nearly in half since it only takes 20 frames to rotate the twinkie full (xbox) circle. That's all you need.
-1

2009-06-28 02:29:02

Nah, it would be okay if done right. Don't you want to know when your favorite users make sites? And you aren't putting anyone on a pedestal because each user decides what users they want to see. Just because subscription is associated with youtube doesn't mean it will become youtube if you add subscriptions. And the gif is 40 frames because the original was 40.

2009-06-28 14:55:21

I know when my favorite users makes sites. I check their profiles. "And you aren't putting anyone on a pedestal because each user decides what users they want to see." lol wut? That's exactly what it does. And that's the problem. I don't want to encourage site viewings based on username. My sites get few enough votes/views as it is.

2009-06-28 14:55:51

When people with bad memories are able to make an online list of dozens of favorite and semi-favorite users, then they no longer need to view front page or spend any time browsing around. If anything, user names should be removed and made available by request only.

2009-06-28 19:30:10

I thought the purpose of ytmnd was to make and enjoy sites. My mistake. Checking profiles every day hoping to see a new site made by each of your favorites is insanely inefficient. I don't have time for that. You must not have very many favs if its that easy for you. I probably have at least 50 users I would subscribe too, and there is no way I would remember to check all of their profiles everyday nor would I want to. Just because you have subscriptions doesn't mean the frontpage is obsolete.

2009-06-28 19:37:31

There is always time to browse around for new talent on Up and Coming. The reason why your sites don't get very many views is quite simple: there are not enough voters on ytmnd, and your sites aren't good enough to make it to U&C to get exposure. Only a new naive user would suggest that complete anonymity would solve ytmnd's problems. To prove my point, when I make a bad site, it gets no exposure. When I make a good site, it gets exposure. This has nothing to do with name recognition. Work on your skills.

2009-06-28 19:52:31

Do you think I magically gained a "reputation"? Heck no. I earned it by making sites that people liked. I know it's frustrating because in ytmnd's current climate is rough, but selfishly bringing other users back to your level won't solve the real problems. I would check ytmnd almost every day regardless of whether or not my favorite users make sites. At any rate most of my favorite users don't make sites anymore, so I can only hope for more outstanding unknowns to pop up and make great content mostly.

2009-06-29 01:41:05

You sound like a Michael Bay type trying to justify his position as a highly paid director. Everything you've just said is pure propaganda to further bolster the current status quo. In your position I might do it too, but recognize that there are people who see through it. If you are in earnest, then I don't know where to begin expressing myself. Earned reputations? Proving your point? Get real. You're the one who's new.

2009-06-29 01:43:15

Many of the best artists are still "Wizard of Oz" behind the scenes types. I guess I can just say that the difference between us seems to be that you think voting is "honest" and legitimate and I don't. You think voting here is any different that voting Boosh into office? Twice? Cut the pretension. It's nothing to take pride in.

2009-06-29 01:46:24

I guess I can just say that the difference between us seems to be that you think voting is "honest" and legitimate and I don't

2009-06-29 01:51:01

Oops, ignore that last post. PS I think your sites I typically good and I don't mean to suggest otherwise. Just so there's no confusion here...

2009-06-29 01:55:26

Michael Bay doesn't have the ratings to back up his "propaganda". I do. Also, I didn't check your profile until after I made my argument, but I still think you are being naive. It is indisputable that ytmnd needs more voters. I guarantee that more voters will fix the problem. if you were around frequently in '06 you would have seen it first hand. I made worse sites yet my fourth site ever had more exposure in 4 hours than this site has had in 3 days. Voting is not always legitimate, but we can't change that

2009-06-29 01:58:41

Subscriptions only give users more options. If they want to limit their viewing experience, that is their choice. If they want a normal frontpage with useless sections like top viewed, that is their choice. When you aren't imposing your will on other users, you are making a more free and "equal" website that caters to everyone's needs. Giving more options can only benefit not hurt users.

2009-07-18 18:46:11

I oppose the subscription option because my sites get too many views

2009-06-24 02:29:26

Well, it probably would have been a lot less but I had to mess with different effects to get it right, and I had to cut out every one of those video clips from the two ghostbusters movies and import them and key them out.

2009-06-24 02:32:33

2009-06-24 01:40:50

I tried the best I could under the circumstances (I used ulead gif animator to compress the after effects gif I produced because it was too large).I might put more time into it, but I wanted to put this site out before 11.
+2

2009-06-24 01:49:52

Try exporting the frames as .psd's in their own folder then open them as an image sequence in Photoshop. Then compress it as you normally would. lol
+2

2009-06-24 02:17:07

wow the fix was easier than I thought, instead of compressing the AE gif, I just exported a video and then converted that into a gif. For some reason compressing gifs into new gifs in ulead gif animator makes the gifs look awful.

I guess if you count spending days making a muddy gif for an internet humor site as an accomplishment, I can see why you'd think your retort was witty and effective, Imp.

2009-06-24 21:02:14

Now, now, there's no need to get so hostile guys. What is an accomplishment really? It's relative to what you are willing to invest and what you expect in return. As far as internet accomplishments go, I think this was a decent attempt. Sure its not the artistic achievement of the century, but you have to work your way up, and I'm building skills. I post these on ytmnd because its hard to develop a userbase elsewhere and this is probably something only a unique community like ytmnd can appreciate.
+2

2009-06-24 21:16:50

Making ytmnds or other content for the internet a hobby just like anything else. Why should I be ashamed of using my time on this, when I could have spent countless of other ways that are much less productive? Could I be doing more productive things? Yes, but all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. There is merit in making something that some people do enjoy, and I have built skills in the process. The limitations also present a challenge. Aspirations don't always have to be a real world endeavor.

2009-06-24 21:55:15

I have no beef with skill building. I respect using your free time to f*ck around with software. My point is that is that this is a muddy mess. ROY4L's sites, for all the hate that gets thrown at them, are impeccably clean. They are also smart (the later ones, at least) and though I appreciate the parody of his pretension using Ghost Busters, the fact is that people are auto 5ing this because they think it's *hard* to make. It's not. It's just a lot of work.

2009-06-24 22:01:29

His stuff is clean because he usually has 3 animated elements and they are often in black and white (therefore easier to compress). This has like 10 different elements, and they are all in color, and I fit them altogether in a small space (I couldn't help it I just kept adding more stuff). Also, I'm not royal. I'm just not that good. I don't know why you can't enjoy this just because it isn't ROY4L's style but okay, it is only 27 colors...

2009-06-24 22:02:21

Auto fiving? who has said that. And it isn't easy, if that's what you think.
