I think max accepts applications over at the IRC chat.

It wasn't always like this. Features status used to be based on popular vote, effort, and general likability. Alas the keaton/fourest/dmaz era over. Some people still make good sh*t tho. Which I'm thankful for.

Fourest? Likability? Boy, ytmnd revisionist history sure has begun to set in around here...

2008-12-02 19:44:21

You were around when people actually liked fourest, weren't you? Anyway, I think he's still technically featured. I was a younger generation YTMND star who didn't retain his status when max wanted to switch it up.

2008-12-02 20:50:30

You mean like when a bunch of well known users hacked his account and deleted his sites because they knew he used numerous alts to upvote himself into popularity?

2008-12-02 21:11:18

Syncan, MasterSitsu......those were the types of users that 99% of users liked that I believe featured user status was made for....those types of users no longer exist though.

2008-12-02 22:05:13

No it wasn't. There were a lot of people who were originally featured that did not deserve it like ollj, texaggie79, whetstone, and WTL. There was also many people who wanted keaton removed. You can blame him for the revamping of the featured box.

2008-12-02 22:07:36

see....whetstone being featured is proof then that featured user system is just a joke by max to annoy us. Who liked whetstone? Pat Robertson maybe? Why would someone of the Jewish faith feature a conservative Christian weirdo like whetstone?

2008-12-02 22:20:51

Whetstone was featured because at the time how many comments people received were took into account. Quite frankly all you Victory Alliance members are looking like a bunch of whiners with nothing meaningful going on in your life with all the sites you've making about featured users lately. If you don't like their sites then downvote, say it sucks, and move on. By making a bunch of sites about it, you aren't really helping YTMND.

The comments were taken into account? BS, there is no mathematical formula, and I do not believe there ever has been.

“Revolution is not a dinner party, not an essay, nor a painting, nor a piece of embroidery; it cannot be advanced softly, gradually, carefully, considerately, respectfully, politely, plainly and modestly.”

From Max's blog on the subject. "At, I used more data to base the scores off of, number of comments (this is why whetstone made the list), number of views, etc." http://ytmndev.blogspot.com/2008/09/featured-users-algorithms.html

Its kinda pretentious when people comment and dont vote.

2008-12-03 18:22:19

Bullsh*t (like most of the elitist claims). I only vote on sites that move me to vote. If I'm indifferent to the site then I don't vote. There are also certain sites I don't vote on like RIP sites and most tribute or attack sites. Plus, you have to view the site in order to vote and honestly, I haven't watched this site.

"move you to vote"??? This is ytmnd,a low level site on the internet. This isnt a proposition for some important referendum.Vote or die as puffy says.

Im not complaining, nor would i want to be featured.I do think that some people who deserve to be featured get screwed like keaton, dmaz, darthwang, and murdar get pushed aside for max's buddies (directory, alas, inkdrinker, and gr33n-just kidding.

2008-12-03 19:09:46

Logic has no place on the internet but I still bet the majority of currently featured users would agree that MurdarMachene should be pink. But it don't matter anyhow as he all but quit making sites a few months ago. dmaz was part of the f*ggy 5ers club and I know you'd have been rallying against him if this was August, unless yr secretly a fourest fan. And inkdrinker and max never seemed like buddies; more like max tolerated his shenanigans because he's funny as hell. But whatever, who gives a f*ck.

2008-12-03 19:37:00

Is inkdrinker still a mod?

2008-12-03 19:39:30

A long while back I asked him that and he said something like: I dunno, I haven't even checked in so long.

I've found the only people who care about being featured, or featured users fall into two categories: 1) People who used to be featured and want it back because they used it as a means of self-fulfillment in their otherwise lonely lives. 2) People who make really mediocre sites, have poor-self images and secretly wish they were featured because they think it's like, the end-all-be-all of "ytmnd success"(whatever that means)...some great honor that should only be bestowed upon people THEY believe are worthy.

2008-12-03 19:33:19

These are also the people who automatically attribute "elitism" and other negative traits to anyone who happens to have a pink username and think they're leading some important revolution in imaginary internet land. So basically...really lonely people.

Even as a featured user I was still against the system, but at least at that time it still went by the algorithm; I have only been speaking out against it more now because of the obscurity it has dropped into. Sure, it might have been nice for former featured users, like myself, to get their newer sites more time on the front page as an advantage for more site exposure, but to me, YTMND is about enjoying the content made by the users, not pride over having high ratings or featured user status.
