It's like ebaumsworld of TV. It steals everything from the Simpsons.

Stop acting like you all didn't love the show back in 04.
2007-10-09 06:37:15

You hate it because it deviates from the plot? You actually watch comedies for the story vice the humor?

"censor" and "sensor" are two different words. Censor, as in censorship, is the act of stopping something from being presented to one or more individuals through the use of some kind of blocking mechanism or simply not presenting it at all through a third or second party. Sensor is a mechanism that is used to determine if any sort of physical action has been performed within the sensor's defined range. Thank you for your time. Also LOL

Simpsons already did it.

He's got a point though. Most of the jokes don't actually happen in the storyline itself. After watching nearly every episode you can't help but notice thats where the "humor" lies all the time. Like it's forced into the episode rather than being nicely intertwined with the actual story. It drifts away momentarily for an either hit or miss scenario. At least the Simpsons can still produce humor within the actual plotline

The Simpsons is now entirely devoid of anything that resembles humor.

RedFrog is now entirely devoid of anything that resembles taste.

An occasional nonsequitor, used sparingly, can keep the audience of a TV series on its toes. Constant nonsequitors at the expense of plot or character development are the hallmark of lazy writing.

Yeah, sketch comedy sucks becuase it has no plot and the characters are way underdeveloped. God, I never thought I'd end up defending Family Guy.

That's why I qualified what I wrote with "TV series". Sketch comedy by definition is a collection of short, unrelated (or loosely-related) skits, and so it can't be expected to offer much in the way of character development or well-defined plot. Family Guy claims to be about the exploits of the Griffin family, but more often than not its humor derives from skits that have no impact on the plot or the characters (especially in the case of those that are obviously fictional in the context of the setting).

And ultimately, that's where my criticism of Family Guy lies: not that it's never funny (isolated bits are quite funny), but that it's very lazily written. For every good joke in a Family Guy episode, there are three or more crappy ones, and around as many pop culture references that are meant to substitute for jokes ("Hey, a Star Wars reference! Now I shall laugh like a trained seal!"). It's like the writers phone it in, week after week, dreary episode after dreary episode.

When does Family Guy claim to be about the exploits of the Griffin family? That's just what you're assuming by mentally comparing it to other TV shows. It's actually started out being quite original in the way that it was written and the first season was quite good. Anyway, I like seeing different types of shows on television. On a side note, your trained seal reference was spot on. I can't even be around friends watching this show. It's sad how everyone starts laughing as soon as they do a cut away

"When does Family Guy claim to be about the exploits of the Griffin family?" Well, it's kind of implicit in how the program shows one or more of them doing something at any given time, and how it goes through the motions of presenting 1/2 hour plot arcs. I will agree with you that the first season was pretty consistently entertaining, but it tanked really hard soon afterward. For all of Seth McFarlane's airs of being "edgy", he found his pat niche formula and settled firmly into it really quick.

That high pitched whine is the same sound the aliens made before they put the probe in...
