I've hated that movie ever since those damn film classes I've taken that dissect it from start to finish to help me "appreciate it" more.

did you know that Wells uses a lot water images. Snow, water, and rain. This water imagery is used to signify a memory a past event that is a source of comfort for the character in the present, such as the snow globe. Welles uses deep focus photography. This allows for everything in a shot to be in focus. Deep focus gives the viewers a lot of choices of what to look at in a shot. He also uses shots which are longer than in a typical movie.

College is a way to signal to potential employers that you aren't as dumb (or poor) as the people who either couldn't get in or couldn't not fail out (and not fail at life). If you can't improve yourself anywhere but college, you fall into the failing at life category. Also, you learn some things that may be somewhat applicable to your field of work. A select few may get a more balanced view of the world so that they will not become small minded bigots, but this is neither common nor required.
