Why can't the artists and the populists just get along? Are art and commerce always at odds? Or is a truce possible? Tune in next week to find out. Lol, internet drama.

2007-07-04 15:30:24

Dramaw? Rowfel!

2007-07-05 16:53:55

"Why can't the artists and the populists just get along?" Because the "populists" are 'pop'ular because Umfuld paid for it to BE 'pop'ular. And what do we call that, children? - Capitalism! - That's right kids. Giving attention to those who force their opinions unto others not by merit or good will, but by means of financial capitulation. But I won't try to make any of you understand; vote 5 because this makes you take a stand against those who would outwit you - and those select few that use real talent...

2007-07-05 16:57:55

... in a medium where pop-culture idiosyncrasy reigns and hard-worked creativity is stifled by the many who would stand to see it burn; simply because it gives them a chance to be a part of SOMETHING. Why not pick up your pencil and paper and be a part of SOMETHING constructive? It's called #?!. Give it a try.

As far as talent, some would say that being funny is the hardest thing to do besides hitting a baseball. Anyway, I just wanted to make a donation and looked for a site I thought was funny but didn't get a lot of views. I saw it as a good natured joke, not as any kind of real statement against the original.

While you may not have intended for this site to come across as a statement against the original piece of work, it seems like the people who are voting high on this (and therefore indicating at least a fraction of approval for the site) are commenting with statements that are at odds with some of the more "artsy" members of YTMND. Statements that, in either case, still (apparently) merit a defensive response from said "artsy" members. ChickenSoda's comments in themselves prove my point rather well.

Looking at the comments, I'm thinking we'll pacify Iraq before korf (and his ilk) and umfuld (and his ilk) will kiss and make up. It's too bad, because I enjoy both kinds of sites for different reasons. I just wish they could see the value in each other's sensibilities and come to a peace. Quick somebody tell me to, "f*ck off, hippie."

Honestly, I had made it because I thought that there was something particularly amusing and even artistic about combining something generally perceived as quality art with something generally perceived as trashy, such as fads and goatse. It's kind of like sticking a moustache on the Mona Lisa. And yes I did just compare myself to Duchamp. Thanks for the sponsor, Umfuld.

I think you and I are sitting on similar fences guyfawkes; I'm just more prone to jump to the defense of sites like Mesc's and not these little bitterly concocted clusters of crap by pre-pubescent cretins. ssssighhhh

2007-07-05 20:39:53

Let's face it, conflict is part of what makes ytmnd fun. As long as no one gets garroted here. I'm genuinely glad that this site was created and sponsored, I just happen to disagree with the statement it's making, and it's okay to fight and disagree. Hey, anyone remember those religious sites last year by Whetstone and Peterguy? Lol, the comment wars that ensued were one of the best things I've ever seen on ytmnd. We definitely need more controversy on this site, I love that sh*t. I'm an *ssh*le.

"It's too bad, because I enjoy both kinds of sites for different reasons." I enjoy some of the content of Umfuld's sites. My only problem is that he didn't make any of it. And, while "being funny" may be hard, it's not very hard to find things that are funny and reproduce them unaltered in any of the various digital mediums, especially at lowered framerates.

They give oscars for editing, you know? Also, I have sites that are all me. Some that have been better recieved than anything you've done. Like I've said before, I don't think this is the right place for you if you have a problem with Classic Style sites. Do a google search for Photoshop Message Board, and send us a card at XMas.

Play nice, or I'm giving both of you time outs.

2007-07-07 18:55:40

The sites of mine he's talking about, a good example of that is Peace Frog. It's called Peace Frog because I made a 5 sec loop of the song Peace Frog. I thought it was cool so I made a site to share it. Not wanting to post a blank screen I made a silly gif to go along with it. It's about the music, not the image. Looped in a way that no one has ever heard before. Fine if he doesn't like it, but his criticism completely misses the point of why I posted it.

I enjoyed this, but not for the reasons I hated it.

What you're doing is more "trimming" than editing, and they don't give oscars to the mailroom kids who do the trimming, no, it's the people that produce the final product. Most of what I do is strictly editing and arranging prefabricated images, but the product is not merely a subset of the original content but actually builds something new out of the fray. You're dabbling in semantics, my friend, and your analogies are horrible.

2007-07-07 23:49:08

And when referring to "framerates" I'm obviously referring to your completely unedited Batman sites. Edited as in the common nontrivial colloquial sense used on ytmnd as in actually changing SOMETHING between the beginning and end of the presented material or at least "trimming" to change the context of the original material in a way that might be humorous. Simply taking a joke as is from another source and posting it on ytmnd under your name is very Carlos Mencia.

Hmm, Umfuld made a point that makes my rant completely useless. Guess I'll ignore that and babble about something else and hope he doesn't notice

You may want to reread... everything. I don't see a single worthwhile point you make. Are you referring to the reception of your sites? Who gives a f*ck? Harry Potter gets a better reception than any other piece of literature in history. Are you referring to the sites you actually made? They are few and far between, and none of them were memorable. And, in between those, you're a worthless thief. Carlos Mencia. Carlos Mencia. Carlos Mencia.
