All Old Testament laws passed away for the same reason animal sacrifices, circumcision, etc., passed away. God gave them to accomplish a purpose for the nation of Israel. They accomplished that purpose, so God removed them.

Nehby, the good does not outweigh the silly superstitious nonsense that overwhelms the rest of the bible, and the 'good' jesus provided is simply common sense social contract that we'd have (and most other cultures have and had) with or without it. on top of that, the Bibles main reason for being good is because you'll go to hell if you dont, rather than because its the right, common sense thing to do.

Not everything in the NT is crap, but is difficult to claim Jesus' teachings as the pinnacle of morality. People pick and choose what morals are to be taken from the Bible, quite often to justify their own prejudices.

I guess I just really object to the idea out there that Christianity invented morality, considering the independent development of Eastern secular morality and pre-christian Sumerian hymns that had a very similar 'sermon on the mount' message. If people only focus on Jesus' "good stuff" we have no problems, but I think pushing the whole Bible as inerrant truth drags all of it down into the gutter.

The Bible is too contradictory and too multi-interpretational to be accepted as a guideline for anyone's life. Morality has yet to be defined by anyone or anything, and in the end the best you can hope for is to do what you think is right. Of course, humans tend to try and justify everything from rape to murder, that's why we have laws. But laws are just as flawed and easily circumvented as the Bible. The only reasonable conclusion is that humanity is doomed, and the sooner we kill ourselves the better.

nutnics how can you be sure god created himself? or herself? Is it not possible that god does or doesnt exist? Look into your history and you would learn during the dark ages and those before that it was said that there was a heaven and a god because it would bring people hope during those bad times. It is also basic human nature that if there is not an explanation for an event...they make up a reason that fits. You can not be sure if there is or isnt a god. You cant know whats unknown without proof

Ironically, the Catholic Church reigned in the burning of witches and heretics. If you look at the statistics during those times you find that areas of Europe and the America's under Protestant control have a far higher rate of burnings at the stake than Catholic controlled areas (even when compared to Inquistiton Spain) . This can be explained by the Catholic Churchs disapproval of unofficial texts, whereas in Protestant Europe free interpretation allowed superstition to gain a far stronger position.

Whether or not you consider al religion superstition is beside the point. The final point to prove the superstition is what happened in the U.S. Not simply with the Salem witch trials (the likes of which could never have happened in a Catholic area) but also with the rise of weird psuedo-Christian sects, like the Mormons to name one.
