Footballs nowadays are made of cow leather. The term pigskin is a throwback to the days when they used an inflated pigs bladder inside the ball. So playing football is fine folks!
Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 are dead parrots at this stage, considered obselete by every major branch of christianity. |

I still prefer being an independant thinking agnostic looking for my own personal religion than following something thats handed to me anyday. |

| YTMND is NOT a place for posts on religion or on any controversial topic. I don't think that this is what Max had in mind for YTMND. |

| Bioman, Old Testament Law was a Covenant between God and the nation of Israel that was still in effect when Jesus was alive. However, as you know, A COVENANT IS A CONTRACT... |
+4 | |||||
| And a contract can be rendered null and void in one of two ways: 1.) By illegally destroying it (physically tearing it up), or 2.) By legally by fulfilling it. For example, if you hire me to build a house for a price, it would be illegal for you or me to destroy the contract. But if we fulfilled the contract (I build the house and you pay me), it would no longer be binding. Likewise, Jesus did not come to destroy the law (remove it contrary to its provisions).... |
+4 | |||||
| But He did come to fulfill it and replace it, completely in harmony with the provisions of the law itself. He did fulfill the law (Luke 24:44-47; Acts 13:29). Therefore, it passed away! All Old Testament laws passed away for the same reason animal sacrifices, circumcision, etc., passed away. God gave them to accomplish a purpose for the nation of Israel. They accomplished that purpose, so God removed them. |
+4 | |||||
| lol bible | ||||||
| Luke 16:17 says And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
Matthew 5:17-18 says 17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Oops, guess we ARE supposed to slay those who break the sabbath. At least they will see the cosmic cat on a keyboard.

| the NT is rather ridiculous regardless of how much less outright EVIL it is than the OT, whether its Jesus telling christians to sell all their possessions and give them to the poor because the lord will take care of you, or that you should be content with your wage regardless of how unfair it is... its all just stupid. i cant believe people think the Bible is such a great book. its not the real basis of our morality by any stretch. | ||||||
| Or how about that poor fig tree he killed? That's my favorite story. | ||||||
| Or those poor pigs who he drove a cliff after one of his legendary exorcisms. Wait, what's that? You never knew Jesus was an exorcist? |
+1 | |||||
| O yes Master Sitsu everything in the NT is crap, like loving your neighbor, being selfless and helping the poor. I'll go burn you house while on my way to piss on hobos (not called peons for nothing) and laugh at someone trapped in a burning house. Because none of those NT values are part of my morality....Yea right, you're not the brightest Sitsu |
+5 | |||||
| LOL OT NT BBQ ROFLZ |
+2 | |||||
| Nehby, the good does not outweigh the silly superstitious nonsense that overwhelms the rest of the bible, and the 'good' jesus provided is simply common sense social contract that we'd have (and most other cultures have and had) with or without it. on top of that, the Bibles main reason for being good is because you'll go to hell if you dont, rather than because its the right, common sense thing to do. | ||||||
| Not everything in the NT is crap, but is difficult to claim Jesus' teachings as the pinnacle of morality. People pick and choose what morals are to be taken from the Bible, quite often to justify their own prejudices. |
+2 | |||||
| I guess I just really object to the idea out there that Christianity invented morality, considering the independent development of Eastern secular morality and pre-christian Sumerian hymns that had a very similar 'sermon on the mount' message. If people only focus on Jesus' "good stuff" we have no problems, but I think pushing the whole Bible as inerrant truth drags all of it down into the gutter. |
+1 | |||||
| I'm sure someone's sad this before me, but religion and morality are not mutually inclusive. I'm fond of that expression. |
+1 | |||||
| Morality is relative and worthless. Also I'd buy his daughter. She sounds like a workhorse. | ||||||

I didn't know Jesus used caps, had bad spelling and used exclamation marks rofl. | ||||||
| "You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also." Jesus contradicts the Old Testament several times thusly. Also he can teleport if you ask the Mormons, and those who believe the infallibility of the Bible also believe that Jesus died at two different times. I'm a Christian, and I accept people-- religion has nothing to do with how much I respect people. | ||||||
| The Bible is too contradictory and too multi-interpretational to be accepted as a guideline for anyone's life. Morality has yet to be defined by anyone or anything, and in the end the best you can hope for is to do what you think is right. Of course, humans tend to try and justify everything from rape to murder, that's why we have laws. But laws are just as flawed and easily circumvented as the Bible. The only reasonable conclusion is that humanity is doomed, and the sooner we kill ourselves the better. |

| "Or those poor pigs who he drove a cliff after one of his legendary exorcisms." Khaaaaaaaaaan, Jesus didn't drive the pigs off of the cliff, in fact they never fell off a cliff in the first place. They drowned. If you actually read the Bible you'd have know that... (Mark 5:1-20). Anyway, here's the REAL STORY for the pigs: |
+1 | |||||
| "They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones"---- |
+2 | |||||
| "Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” [the demon] replied, “For we are many in this man.” And Legion begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” Jesus gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned." |

| What happens if he comes back the second time and says, hey, the New Testement was wrong and out-of-date too? |
+1 | |||||
| nutnics how can you be sure god created himself? or herself? Is it not possible that god does or doesnt exist? Look into your history and you would learn during the dark ages and those before that it was said that there was a heaven and a god because it would bring people hope during those bad times. It is also basic human nature that if there is not an explanation for an event...they make up a reason that fits. You can not be sure if there is or isnt a god. You cant know whats unknown without proof | ||||||

| Just thought I'd throw this out there: back when Catholicism reigned supreme in Europe during the Medieval period, when witches were burned at the stake, confessed homosexuals were burned at the foot of the stake, on the "f*got" that lit the fire to burn the witch. Where the second 'g' comes from in the word, I don't know. |
+1 | |||||
| okay, ghost, don't even name-drop catholic or protestant here. If you were a true YTMNDer and remembered whetstone, then you'd know that that argument is going nowhere. |
+3 | |||||
| My guess is that he only mentioned Catholicism as a detail to the main point of the message, which is; where the term 'f*ggot' comes from. Anyway, incredibly good work bioman85. If for no other reason than the fact that it had a point and presented it well. |

| hahaha i just read some of dustin's other comments and he hates EVERYTHING. from black people to west virginia. not to say gay people are somewhere between blacks and west virginia.. | ||||||
| true, true |
-2 | |||||
| Ironically, the Catholic Church reigned in the burning of witches and heretics. If you look at the statistics during those times you find that areas of Europe and the America's under Protestant control have a far higher rate of burnings at the stake than Catholic controlled areas (even when compared to Inquistiton Spain) . This can be explained by the Catholic Churchs disapproval of unofficial texts, whereas in Protestant Europe free interpretation allowed superstition to gain a far stronger position. | ||||||
| Whether or not you consider al religion superstition is beside the point. The final point to prove the superstition is what happened in the U.S. Not simply with the Salem witch trials (the likes of which could never have happened in a Catholic area) but also with the rise of weird psuedo-Christian sects, like the Mormons to name one. | ||||||
