i love downvoting bots, the string is right there to get to firm your position in up and coming and then they swoop in and take the dangling string away from the metaphorical NEDM that is the ytmnd user who created the site

Haha so funny, except NOT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_sun Close to the rotational poles, (more than 66° North and South, see 'Arctic Circle') the sun does not rise during up to 3 winter months and does not sink during up to 3 summer monts, the longer the closer you are to the rotational pole. 23,5° eath tilt +66° makes almost 90°.

Alright, I'll send you to barrow and then during the summer, see how you'll like to try to fall asleep with the sun up all night without being able to buy alcohol to make yourself pass out in a town with a population barely over 2,000

There are telescopes on the south pole for the same reason of long noghts and days (that and a total lack of smog warnings): The southern stars also do not set or rise and it is dark for a long time, long enough to measure stars constantly enough to find planets around them.

No offense man but I highly doubt most ytmnders are aspiring astronomers

I'd definatly live there.
