I get that too, especially with SMB3. However, the curtains starts down, you won't ever see them go up. I've never seen any other colours then black and blue, either. Your NES is REALLY f*cked up :P

On a more personal note, my NES got so bad that I had to remove the cover and use an old shoe to hold the spring-loaded cartridge rack down.
